（1503—1583）明松江华亭人。字子升，号少湖，又号存斋。嘉靖二年进士。授编修。以忤张孚敬，斥为延平府推官。累官为国子祭酒，迁礼部侍郎，改吏部。接见庶官，常咨边腹要害，吏治民情。寻兼翰林院学士，掌院事，进礼部尚书。为严嵩所忌，度未可与争，乃谨事之，而精治斋祠迎帝意，嵩不能图。未几，兼文渊阁大学士，参预机务。密疏发仇鸾罪恶，鸾因此诛。进武英殿大学士，改兼吏部尚书。四十一年，使邹应龙劾嵩子世蕃，勒嵩致仕，代为首辅。世宗卒，阶草遗诏，悉罢斋醮、土木等弊政，牵复言事得罪诸臣。后为高拱所扼，于隆庆二年致仕归。卒赠太保、谥文贞。有《世经堂集》。
