松江府上海人，字士纲。弘治九年进士。正德间为兵科给事中，以不谒馈宦官谪判深州。刘瑾诛，累官江西学政。朱宸濠反，锦激励士民，捕守城内官杜茂等，驰请南赣巡抚王守仁入城，建首功。后坐事落职，寻事白，致仕归。卒年八十。
