湖广黄冈人，字稚钦，王廷瞻兄。恃才放恣，甚至上树呼叫，馆师无如之何。正德十二年进士，选翰林庶吉士。因疏谏武宗南巡，罚跪受杖。时已授给事中，乃出为裕州知州。失职怨望，为上官所劾，罢归乡里。屏居二十余年，嗜酒纵倡为乐。达官贵人来家，蓬发跣足延见。时衣红纻窄衫，骑牛跨马，啸歌田野间。诗婉丽多风，文长于尺牍。有《梦泽集》。
