徽州府婺源人，初名书，字同文。元末以茂才异等举，除郴州学正。陈友谅用为翰林学士承旨。朱元璋下武昌，召为国子博士，赐名同。官至吏部尚书兼学士承旨，与宋濂等修《日历》，为总裁官。书成，致仕。卒谥文敏。有《天衢吟啸集》、《海岳涓埃集》。
