宋福州侯官人，字肤仲，号北山。少刻志学古，以圣贤自期，从张栻、吕祖谦游，后偕其兄孔夙师事朱熹于武夷。孝宗淳熙二年进士。历知邵武、瑞金，为淮东、广西提举常平，仕至秘阁修撰。以数忤史弥远，为所不容，归而杜门著书。学者称北山先生。有《中庸大学解》、《北山集》。
