释慧元（一○三七～一○九一），俗姓倪，潮阳（今属广东）人。年十九落发受具，为南岳十三世。英宗治平三年（一○六六），至黄龙。神宗熙宁元年（一○六八），住吴江寿圣寺。后居昆山慧岩院、承天万寿寺、湖州报本禅院。哲宗元祐六年卒，年五十五。谥證悟禅师。事见《禅林僧宝传》卷二九。
