钱彦远(994—1050)，字子高，宋钱塘(今杭州)人。吴越王钱倧之孙，钱易长子。北宋宝元元年(1038)进士及第，以殿中丞为御史台推官，通判明州(今宁波)，迁太常博士。庆历中举贤良方正能直言极谏科，擢为尚书礼部员外郎，知润州。上疏极言时政有中原天灾频仍、西北契丹雄踞虎视、西南蛮獠起事“三方之急”，以期长治久安之计。润州旱灾蝗灾，民缺粮乏食，彦远不顾反对，发放常平仓赈济灾民。召为右司谏，上书陈严赦免、择良吏、增俸以养廉、息土木以省费等事，迁起居舍人，入直集贤院，知谏院。
