释自回，合州石照（今重庆合川）人。世为石工，目不识字，求人口授《法华》，颇能成诵。弃家投大随静和尚供役。一日凿石，火光迸出，忽然彻悟，遂为僧，人因称石头和尚。居合州钓鱼台寺，《嘉泰普灯录》卷一七、《五灯会元》卷二○有传。今录诗二首。
