译文
饮别后归卧船中，只听到淮水波声，如拍枕畔，不知不觉又天亮了。从船篷缝隙中所见之残月是那么小。汴水无情，随着故人东去，而我却满载一船离愁别恨，独向西州。
竹溪的花浦之间，你我曾经一同大醉，当日欢聚畅饮时的情谊胜过别后的伤悲。谁让我偏偏在芸芸众生中发现了你，并与你成为朋友，这才酿成了今日分别这样一场烦恼。
注释
虞美人：此调原为唐教坊曲，初咏项羽宠姬虞美人，因以为名。又名《一江春水》、《玉壶水》、《巫山十二峰》等。双调，五十六字，上下片各四句，皆为两仄韵转两平韵。古代词开始大体以所咏事物为题，配乐歌唱逐渐形成固定曲调，后即开始名为调名即词牌。《虞美人》即是如此。
长淮：指淮河。
隙月：（船篷）隙缝中透进的月光。
汴水：古河名。唐宋时将出自黄河至淮河的通济渠东段全流统称汴水或汴河。
西州：古建业城门名。晋宋间建业（今江苏南京）为扬州刺州治所，以治事在台城西，故称西州。
风鉴：风度识见，也指对人的观察、看相。

虞美人·波声拍枕长淮晓创作背景
这首词写于宋神宗元丰七年（1084年）冬。当时苏轼与秦观会面，而后在秦淮河上临别对饮。此词便是词人与秦观饮别后的有感之作。

苏轼（1037－1101），北宋文学家、书画家、美食家。字子瞻，号东坡居士。汉族，四川人，葬于颍昌（今河南省平顶山市郏县）。一生仕途坎坷，学识渊博，天资极高，诗文书画皆精。其文汪洋恣肆，明白畅达，与欧阳修并称欧苏，为“唐宋八大家”之一；诗清新豪健，善用夸张、比喻，艺术表现独具风格，与黄庭坚并称苏黄；词开豪放一派，对后世有巨大影响，与辛弃疾并称苏辛；书法擅长行书、楷书，能自创新意，用笔丰腴跌宕，有天真烂漫之趣，与黄庭坚、米芾、蔡襄并称宋四家；画学文同，论画主张神似，提倡“士人画”。著有《苏东坡全集》和《东坡乐府》等。
