檐前淅淅沥沥地下着秋雨，窗外竹声萧萧，摆上精美的棋盘棋子，向您讨教棋艺，您是国手，让我一子。
您的棋艺着实绝妙，扶弱起危好比春泉流淌，生机不断；进攻起来势如拔旗斩将，疾如野火燎原。
您行事为人，坚守大哲学家、周朝史官老子李耳的学说；作战用兵，不亚于汉朝大将军霍去病的勇敢和谋略。
如果能活到七十岁，尚有万余日，期待能与您在弈棋中消磨时光。
注释
国棋：指技艺高超的围棋国手。王逢：唐代著名围棋国手，生平不详。
玉子纹楸（qiū）：即围棋子和围棋盘。玉子：玉制的围棋子。一路饶：饶一路的倒装，即让一子。
檐雨：檐沿滴下的雨水。萧萧：风吹竹木声。
羸（léi）形：原指形体瘦弱。此指棋型羸弱。春泉：春日的泉水。比喻棋型由弱转强，好似春天流淌的泉水，充满了生机。
拔势：拔旗之势。古代作战，军旗有指挥作战稳定军心的作用。因此能否拔对方军旗是战斗胜负的一个关键。一作“猛势”。
“守道”：谓防御稳固阵脚不乱，就像老子修道，以静制动。守道：防守之道。周柱史：周之柱下史。唐代御侍史职位与其相当，故唐人亦用为御侍史的代称。一作“周伏柱”。
鏖（áo）兵：大规模的激烈战争。霍嫖（piāo）姚：即霍去病。西汉武帝时名将，两次大破勾奴，屡获战功，曾为霍嫖姚校尉。
浮生：一作“得年”。语本《庄子·刻意》：“其生若浮，其死若休。”以人生在世，虚浮不定，因称人生为“浮生”。更：还有。
期：相约，约定。销：消磨，度过。
送国棋王逢创作背景
根据宋代竹庄居士的《竹庄诗话》所云：杜牧作此诗时年当四十二三。可知此诗当作于唐武宗会昌五年（845年）前后。杜牧与围棋国手王逢交谊甚厚，在送别王逢时作此诗。
送国棋王逢鉴赏
这是一首颇有趣味充满深情的送别诗。作者的友人王逢是一位棋艺高超的围棋国手，于是作者紧紧抓住这点，巧妙地从纹枰对弈一路出发，以爽健的笔力委婉深沉地抒写出自己的依依惜别之情。
“玉子纹楸一路饶，最宜檐雨竹萧萧”，起首即言棋，从令人难忘的对弈场景下笔，一下子便引发人悠悠缕缕的棋兴。苏鹗《杜阳杂俎》：“大中（唐宣宗年号，847—859年）中，日本王子来朝，王子善围棋，上敕顾师言待诏为对手。王子出楸玉局，冷暖玉棋子。云：‘本国之东三万里，有集贤岛，岛上有凝霞台，台上有手谈池。池中生玉棋子，不由制度，自然黑白分焉，冬温夏冷，故谓之冷暖玉。又产如楸玉，状类楸木，琢之为棋局，光洁可鉴。”“一路饶”，友人是国手，难以对子而弈，故须相饶一子。杜牧是著名才子，善诗文词，亦善书画。所书《张好好诗》，董其昌称之为“深得六朝人气韵”（《渔洋诗话》）；所画维摩像，米芾称其“光采照人”（《画史》）。能让一子与国手对弈，说明他的棋艺也相当高。“最宜”二字，深情可见。“檐雨竹萧萧”，暗明秋日。秋雨淅淅沥沥，修篁瑟瑟萧萧，窗下樽前，摆上精美的棋盘棋子，请艺候教，从容手谈，那是多么幽雅又令人惬意的棋境啊。
颔联转入对枰上风光的描写上：羸形，指棋形羸弱。这是赞美友人绝妙的棋艺，说他扶弱起危好比春泉淙淙流淌，潺湲不息，充满了生机；进攻起来突兀迅速，势如拔旗斩将，疾如野火燎原。比喻形象生动，三尺之局顿时充满活力，无比宽广，仿佛千里山河，铁马金戈，狼烟四起，阵云开合。
颈联承前，使事言棋，赞叹友人的棋风：“守道还如周伏柱，鏖兵不羡霍嫖姚。”周伏柱，指老子，春秋时思想家，姓李名耳，字伯阳，又称老聃，曾做过周朝的柱下史，著《道德经》五千言，后被尊为道家创始人。霍嫖姚，即霍去病，汉武帝时名将，两次大破匈奴，屡建战功，曾为嫖姚校尉。这两句说王逢的棋动静相宜，攻防有序，稳健而凌厉。防御稳固，阵脚坚实，就像老子修道，以静制动，以无见有。进攻厮杀，首尾相应，战无不胜，较之霍去病鏖兵大漠，更加令人惊叹。围棋自来有兵家之戏的说法，如“略观围棋兮，法于用兵，三尺之局兮，为战斗场”（马融《围棋赋》），“世有围棋之戏，或言是兵法之类也”（桓谭《新论》）。杜牧喜好言兵，非常注重研究军事，曾在曹操注《孙子兵法》的基础上，结合历代用兵的形势虚实，重新注释《孙子》，还写了《战论》《守论》《原十六卫》等军事论文。这里以兵言棋正得棋中三味。这四句淋漓兴会，极力渲染烘托，表现出友人高超的棋艺和自己真挚的友情。
诗意至此戛然而止，至于胜负如何，诗人未说，也无须说，因为纹枰手谈，大开眼界，大得棋趣，二人友情由此而深，由此而笃。于是笔锋一掉，转入送别正题：“得年七十更万日，与子期于局上销。”所谓转入正题，不是正面接触，而是侧面揭示，以期代送。古人以七十为高寿，故多以七十为期。白居易《游悟真寺》：“我今四十余，从此终身闲，若以七十期，犹得三十年。”这两句即从白诗化出。杜牧作此诗时约四十余岁，若至七十，尚有万余日。因此他与王逢相约，要将这万余日时间，尽行于棋局上销用。杜牧素以济世之才自负，可由于不肯苟合，仕途并不顺，故尔常游心方罫，寄情楸枰，所谓“樽香轻泛数枝菊，檐影斜侵半局棋”（《题桐叶》），“雨暗残灯棋散后，酒醒孤枕雁来初”（《齐安郡晚秋》），“自怜穷律穷途客，正劫孤灯一局棋”（《寄李起居四韵》）等，正是这种围棋生活的反映。如今他遇上王逢这样棋艺高超，情投意合的棋友，该是多么欢乐啊。可是友人就要离去了，留下的将仅仅是“最宜檐雨竹萧萧”那种美好的回忆，是“别后竹窗风雪夜，一灯明暗复吴图”（《重送绝句》）的凄凉现实。因此这两句含蕴极丰，表面上是几多豪迈，几多欢快，实际上却暗寓着百般无奈和慨叹，抒发的离情别绪极为浓郁，极为深沉。
此诗送别，却通篇不言别，而且切人切事，不能移作他处，因此得后人好评。全诗句句涉棋，而又不著一棋字，可说是占尽风流。起二句以造境胜，启人诸多联想。中间四句极好衬托，棋妙才更见别情之重。结末二句以余生相期作结，以期代送，其妙无穷，一方面入题，使前面的纹枰局势有了着落，一方面呼应前文，丰富了诗的意境。往日相得之情，当日惜别之情，来日思念之情，尽于一个“期”字见出，实在不同凡响。
