译文
远望潼关树木苍苍茫茫，京城长安就在夕阳近旁。
阵阵旋风吹醒饯别之酒，微微细雨打湿朋友行装。
练兵备战边地烟尘正浓，买马防秋塞上秋草已黄。
我知朋友此行去买骏马，不是为了学那古时燕王。
注释
天平何丞：即天平县何县丞，生平未详。天平，唐县名，即虢州湖城县（今河南省灵宝县一带）。丞，县丞，佐县令处理政事。市：购买。
关：指潼关。苍苍：迷迷茫茫。
回风：回旋的风。别酒：饯行酒。
习战：备战。习，练习，准备。边尘黑：指边地战争激烈。
防秋：古代西北各游牧部落，往往趁秋高马肥时南侵。届时边军特加警卫，调兵防守，称为“防秋”。
燕王，指燕昭王，战国时燕国国君。这里用战国时郭隗以古代君王悬赏千金买千里马为喻，劝说燕昭王真心求贤的事。

虢州送天平何丞入京市马创作背景
乾元二年（759）五月，岑参任为虢州长史。同年，岑参送别一何姓县丞进京买马，联想到燕昭市骏，有感而作此诗。

虢州送天平何丞入京市马鉴赏
这首诗是送别之作，写的是送同僚入京买马这样一个比较特殊的题材。
诗的前两句照应题目，“入京”二字写京城长安一带景色。“晚”和“夕阳”点出送别时间，而“关树”、“长安”为何远所去之处，暗示“入京”，同时勾划出苍茫远景。诗的三、四两句写近景。阵阵回风，蒙蒙细雨，伴着送别酒席，打湿旅人行装，从而把环境与送别自然联系起来，意境颇为别致，而“送”字自在其中。
诗的五、六两句转写此行意义。“边尘黑”点明战争未息，“塞草黄”点明时已深秋。经这里点明“秋”字，上文的“关树”、“回风”、“细雨”等等景物便都觉得真切。这两句言及边地战争，可见诗人身在虢州，心系边塞。诗的结尾两句承“习战”、“防秋”，点明“市马”。“市马”本为“习战”，诗人却由此想到“燕昭市骏”的色而且用“不是学燕王”来说何远此行性质，似乎包含弃置州县，不被看重的叹息。
诗的首联写“关树晚苍苍，长安近夕阳”，是惜“入京”而写自己“唯有乡园处，依依望不迷”（《早秋与诸子登虢州西亭观眺》）的情态；诗的尾联出“市骏马”而联想到“学燕王”，也包含着“丹心亦未休”（《题虢州西楼》）却又无人赏拔的含义。这正是本诗表现上的一个特点。此外，诗中还表达了对边事的关切。这些都可以反映诗人任职虢州期间思想和生活的一个侧面。

岑参（约715-770年），唐代边塞诗人，南阳人，太宗时功臣岑文本重孙，后徙居江陵。[1-2] 岑参早岁孤贫，从兄就读，遍览史籍。唐玄宗天宝三载（744年）进士，初为率府兵曹参军。后两次从军边塞，先在安西节度使高仙芝幕府掌书记；天宝末年，封常清为安西北庭节度使时，为其幕府判官。代宗时，曾官嘉州刺史（今四川乐山），世称“岑嘉州”。大历五年（770年）卒于成都。
