译文
兴致常常被催租事破坏，快活也常为送酒人带来。醉醺醺时，诗兴依然存在。菊花又盛开，人也未衰老，就应该把世事忘怀。管他有什么监州来碍手碍脚，只要有螃蟹朵颐，便是我平生一快。
注释
双调：宫调名，十二宫调之一。庆东原：双调曲牌，又名“庆东园”“郓城春”。全曲八句六韵。西皋亭：在西皋山西部。西皋山又称皋亭山，在浙江杭州东北，作者曾隐居于其西麓。适兴：即随性、适情的意思。
兴：兴致。败：败坏。
“欢因”句：用白衣送酒典故。
黄花：菊花。
朱颜未衰：是说酒醉时脸上泛着红光，显得年轻。
“管甚”二句：宋代各州置通判，称为监州，每与知州争权。

庆东原·西皋亭适兴创作背景
薛昂夫晚年鄙薄功名，辞去衢州路总管官职，隐居在皋亭山西麓，创作词曲，追求自由闲适的生活。西皋亭即位于皋亭山西侧。此曲当为作者定居杭州时期的一个重阳节登高游览西皋亭时有感而作。

庆东原·西皋亭适兴鉴赏
此曲起首二句，将古代两则有关重阳节的著名典故巧妙地做了对比，以工整的对仗和紧密相连的内容引出下文的叙述和议论。其一见载于惠洪《冷斋夜话》：北宋潘大临善作诗，然家甚贫。其友临川人谢逸曾写信问：“近新作诗否？”大临答云：“秋来景物，件件是佳句，恨为俗气蔽翳。昨日清卧，闻搅林风雨声，遂题壁曰：‘满城风雨近重阳’。忽催租人来，遂败意。只此一句奉寄。”这就是著名的“一句诗”的故事。其二出自萧统《陶渊明传》：“九月九日出宅边菊丛中坐，久之，满手把菊，值弘送酒至；即便就酌，醉而后归。”作者未必生活中真有如潘大临那样“催租人至”的扫兴遭遇，这里的“兴为催租败”，只不过是对日常生活中各种俗务的典型性反映。本言“适兴”而先言兴“败”，目的是突出“欢因送酒来”。后一句因为有了前一句的铺垫，更加淋漓尽致地反衬出作者好酒酣酒快意欣喜的情态。这就是创作中的欲扬先抑手法。所以第三句顺势点出“酒酣时诗兴依然在”。尽管不如意事如催租般拂人情兴，但只要有酒大醉，借助其神奇的功力，结果“诗兴依然在”。这便将作者桀骜放旷的豪情和盘托出。
如果说首二句败兴和尽兴的对比突出了人世间雅与俗的尖锐对立，那么中间“黄花又开”和“朱颜未衰”二句则在红黄对比之中，尽显人与自然的和谐境界。菊花之盛开上承陶渊明九月九“满手把菊”之典。红颜未衰，则是作者表明自己是个充满生活热情的人，而不是个万念俱灰、毫无易趣的行尸走肉。如此秋高气爽的好时节，如何好的人生阶段，“正好忘怀”。作者的酒兴、诗兴，都是摒除人世干扰，“忘怀”的结果。忘怀的根据，一是“黄花又开”，二是“朱颜未衰”。前者代表了“西皋亭适兴”的佳令和美景，后者则是作者壮志未消，意欲有所作为的内心世界的发露。
小令至此，“适兴”的题目已经缴足，妙在结尾又添上了两句奇纵的豪语：“管甚有监州，不可无螃蟹。”这里又是用典。欧阳修《归田录》卷二载：“往时有钱昆少卿者，家世余杭人也。杭人嗜蟹，昆尝求补外郡，人问其所欲何州，昆曰：‘但得有螃蟹无通判处则可矣。’”这则典故颇为疏狂放逸的文人所称道，如苏轼就有“欲向君王乞符竹，但忧无蟹有监州”的诗句。作者将钱昆有螃蟹、无监州的条件略作改动，“管甚有监州”，说明就是有监州在旁也没有什么了不得，显示了蔑视官场桎梏的气概。而“螃蟹”也是重阳节令之物，马致远《夜行船·秋思》套数中“带霜分紫蟹，煮酒烧红叶，想人生有限杯，浑几个重阳节”就是一证。《世说新语》载东晋的狂士毕卓，曾有“右手持酒杯，左手持蟹螯，拍浮酒船中，便足了一生矣”的豪言。此曲中的“不可无螃蟹”，正是“欢因送酒来”的重申和补充。末尾的这两句，同毕卓的豪言快语在精神气质上是毫无二致的。
曲子表现出作者颇为疏狂放逸的文人性格和蔑视官场桎梏的气概。全曲活用典故，一气呵成，毫无滞涩生硬之感。其横放豪纵，深得散曲曲体的意理。

薛昂夫(1267—1359) 元代散曲家。回鹘（即今维吾尔族）人。原名薛超吾，以第一字为姓。先世内迁，居怀孟路（治所在今河南沁阳）。祖、父皆封覃国公。汉姓为马，又字九皋，故亦称马昂夫、马九皋。据赵孟頫《薛昂夫诗集序》（《松雪斋文集》），他曾执弟子礼于刘辰翁(1234～1297)门下，约可推知他生年约在元初至元年间。历官江西省令史，佥典瑞院事、太平路总管、衢州路总管等职。薛昂夫善篆书，有诗名，诗集已佚。诗作存于《皇元风雅后集》、《元诗选》等集中。
