池塘上没有什么风，只有那落日的余辉，杨花在天晴后又各自从池塘上飞起来了。
柳絮为了依靠它的纤质越过这清镜似的池塘，却满身湿透而不能够归去了。
注释
晖：日光。
杨花：即柳絮。
纤质：谓纤小的身躯。凌：渡过，逾越；清镜：指池水。
湿却：湿了。
池上絮鉴赏
这是韩愈一首描写柳絮的诗。微风不兴，柳絮满天，夕阳之下，诗人坐在明澈如镜的池塘岸上，静心地看着柳絮怎样轻轻地飘落在水中，那纤细的绒毛又是怎样被水一点一点地润湿而再也不能飞起。这样的观察和描绘，说明诗人对大好春光是有无限情趣的。
此诗通过对夕阳湖畔柳絮满天，杨花飘落水面，被水浸湿再也不能飞起来这个细节的描绘，体现出作者陶醉于旖旎的大自然风光的情趣。作品前以写景起兴，后转比拟，堪称鞭辟入里之作。
此诗前以写景起兴，后转比拟。意在杨花不过为了飞到水面上照下自己，便落入水中，无复飞扬了。当然有昌黎自况。“为将纤质凌清镜,湿却无穹不得归.”一句抓住在池边欣赏柳絮的情景。杨花飞飞，装点暮春，时节必然，为何又要临水自照呢？人莫不如此，一身于天地间，自然有命，却偏要通过荣誉、权力、财富自见。郭象注《庄子》曰，圣人不对物。“不对物”则无我，无我则无须自见。

韩愈（768～824）字退之，唐代文学家、哲学家、思想家，河阳（今河南省焦作孟州市）人，汉族。祖籍河北昌黎，世称韩昌黎。晚年任吏部侍郎，又称韩吏部。谥号“文”，又称韩文公。他与柳宗元同为唐代古文运动的倡导者，主张学习先秦两汉的散文语言，破骈为散，扩大文言文的表达功能。宋代苏轼称他“文起八代之衰”，明人推他为唐宋八大家之首，与柳宗元并称“韩柳”，有“文章巨公”和“百代文宗”之名，作品都收在《昌黎先生集》里。韩愈在思想上是中国“道统”观念的确立者，是尊儒反佛的里程碑式人物。
