万里关河眼。愁凝处，渺渺残照红敛。天低远树，潮分断港，路回淮甸。吟鞭又指孤店。对玉露金风送晚。恨自古、才子佳人，此景此情多感。
吴王故苑。别来良朋鸦集，空叹蓬转。挥毫记烛，飞觞赶月，梦销香断。区区去程何限。倩片纸、丁宁过雁。寄相思，寒雨灯窗，芙蓉旧院。
宴清都·秋感鉴赏
据词中意，此词应作于苏妾即将离他而去，而词人尚在淮地出差之时。
“万里”三句。言词人身处广袤的江淮平原，山山水水尽收眼底。在愁闷中凝视西方，茫茫暮色中夕阳正一点点地收敛起余晖。“天低”三句。“断江”、“淮甸”，即指词人身处的江淮平原。因淮水出海口被黄河故道所夺，故淮河也称“断江”。“甸”，即淀。系淮河各处淤积成的湖泊，所以也叫“淮甸”。“天低”句，系孟浩然“野旷天低树”诗句的脱胎换骨。此言词人身在旷野，只见天边的树显得异常低矮，潮汐在淮河的原入海处分道，大路在一个接一个的湖泊之间迂回延伸。“吟鞭”两句。言词人的马鞭遥指着远处一个孤零零的路边客店，说是将去那里借宿一宵，并且可在那里迎着习习凉风喝上几杯“玉露酒”。“恨自古”两句，承上作结。言从古至今有多少个才子佳人，如果面对着旷野、夕照、孤店、独酌等的环境，一定会产生出许多寂寞凄凉的感触。这正是马致远《天净沙·秋思》“古道西风瘦马，夕阳西下，断肠人在天涯”所祖之处。“才子”，也是梦窗自况。
“吴王”三句。“吴王故苑”，指苏州吴地，此系梦窗多年寄居的“第二故乡”。“蓬转”，以蓬草乘风飘转无定，喻词人常年在外奔波，居无定所的生活。此言词人离开苏州后，不知道留在那儿的朋友们有没有再聚会过。而自己却羁留外地，迁居无常，命运多舛。“挥毫”三句，忆旧也。词人紧接自己奔波在外的感叹，想起从前在苏州时与朋友集会欢宴秉烛挥毫，彻夜传杯畅饮的快乐日子，如今就像做梦似的消失殆尽，连所爱的女子也杳无音信。词人苏妾离他而去，在这首词中，略吐端倪。“区区”两句。言自己虽归程未定，路途遥远，但这种区区小事难以阻隔得断他的思念，所以他用片纸表达自己的心曲，并且反复叮嘱带信的人一定要把信送到目的地。“寄相思”两句。又用李商隐《夜雨寄北》“何当共剪西窗烛，却话巴山夜雨时”诗意。而从“芙蓉旧院”一句也可看出，词人思念的是在苏州西园故居“芙蓉旧院”中住着的苏妾。此言词人身居客中，追忆在苏州家中曾与苏妾挑灯夜话的情景。

吴文英（约1200～1260），字君特，号梦窗，晚年又号觉翁，四明（今浙江宁波）人。原出翁姓，后出嗣吴氏。与贾似道友善。有《梦窗词集》一部，存词三百四十余首，分四卷本与一卷本。其词作数量丰沃，风格雅致，多酬答、伤时与忆悼之作，号“词中李商隐”。而后世品评却甚有争论。
