译文
你像清水一样矜持，我像桃花生长在河岸。
桃花戏弄水色，水波荡漾起春光。
我喜欢你的容颜，你喜爱我的文章。
我用绿绮琴弹指奏起：紫鸳鸯，琴声随风飘扬。
我们曾经欢如鱼水，如今却成为两颗树上的鸟儿。
夜夜相对哀鸣，一直到天亮。
我折一支相思树枝送给你，聊表我寸心。
泼出去的水难以收回，飘出去的云朵哪里找回。
就算我们分隔天涯，别忘记托鸟儿带来你的音讯。

发：生长。
波荡：水波荡漾。
悦：喜欢。
子：你。这里是男子对女子的美称。倾：钦佩，倾慕。
绿琴：即绿绮琴，司马相如之琴。这里代指诗中男主人公弹奏的琴。
曲度：即度曲，作曲，按曲谱弹奏歌唱。紫鸳鸯：即诗中男子所弹奏的曲谱名。
一水：同一池中。
五晓：即五更，指天快亮的时候。
相思树：能够表达男女相思之情的树，红豆等，都称为相思树。
寸心：即区区之心。
覆水：指水泼在地上，比喻不可挽回。
行云：飘来飘去的云彩。
天涯：即天边，指极远的地方。度鸟：一个人孤独地生活。如台湾相思树、红豆树、海指飞来飞去的鸟，比喻男子一个人孤独的生活。
莫绝：不要断绝。瑶华音：珍贵的音信。《楚辞·九歌·大司命》曰：“折疏麻兮瑶华，将以遗兮离居。”瑶华：指仙境中的玉花，比喻珍贵美好。谢朓诗曰：“惠而能好我，问以瑶花音。”

代别情人鉴赏
这首诗的最大特点是大量运用比喻。“清水本不动，桃花发岸旁。”诗中的男子自比清水，借以象征自己的纯洁心灵和贞洁的感情；他把GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人比作桃花，借以表现女子的艳丽动人。一池静静的清水，岸边长着一株桃树。桃枝的摆动，引起了水中倒影的摆动；水波荡漾，仿佛春光也在颤动。诗中的男主人公与GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人就像这桃花和清水荡起爱情的波纹。比喻形象、生动，洋溢着诗情。
诗人又用比喻手法描绘了分离后的凄惨图景。过去二人如同一个池中的游鱼一样，相亲相爱在一起，二人分居两地，变成了两个树枝上的鸟，天天如长鸡呜叫，夜夜哀鸣到东方欲晓。我彻夜不眠，清晨起来折下一枝相思树枝，把它赠给你，你见到树枝后就一定会知道我想念你的苦苦心思。这里的比喻既恰切，又给人一种伤感的气氛，牵动人们的情感。
最后以比喻结尾。过去相亲相爱的日子，就如倒在地上的水一样不可收起，就如飘去的浮云一样难以把它重新找回。但愿你不要忘记在遥远的天边有一个孤苦伶仃的亲人。希望不断地给我带来瑶华一样珍贵的音信。这里的“覆水”、“行云”、“瑶华”都比喻得精当，以这样的比喻结尾，留下凄凄情意让人去体会。
总的来说，这首诗以诗中两人的感情发展经过为主题结构，首先追思年轻时的恋慕，其次写尔后分离，再写两人别离已久已不可能在一起，最后寄以希望再通音讯来结尾。

李白（701年－762年），字太白，号青莲居士，唐朝浪漫主义诗人，被后人誉为“诗仙”。祖籍陇西成纪(待考)，出生于西域碎叶城，4岁再随父迁至剑南道绵州。李白存世诗文千余篇，有《李太白集》传世。762年病逝，享年61岁。其墓在今安徽当涂，四川江油、湖北安陆有纪念馆。
