黄昏时候，我询问划船人，前面还有多少路程？
船夫说：“河湾处正好停船，淮河里浪高风紧。”

向夕：傍晚，黄昏。向：接近。
几多：多少。
泊：停泊。
淮：淮河。
问舟子鉴赏
诗人到处漂泊，等走到一个渡头前，虽然问的是前面的路程，当更深处是在问自己：我的前途在何方，我将要去哪里呢？一种惆怅之情油然而生。问前程，既问自己，也是问国家、民族，既表达了诗人漂泊后的寂寞和黯然之情，也表现了对所在世道的忧虑和愤懑之情。
看到江里了浪花的激荡，想起心里，内心的激动也久久不能平静。而淮河里面的波澜，诗人表达了一种欲降服，欲感化的壮志豪情。不过词词句句中多少充斥着忧伤的情怀，悲观的心绪。
从这首诗的内容看，当与《宿建德江》作于同时，为孟浩然漫游吴越时的作品。诗用问答的形式写行旅之情，显得旅情无主意，全靠船夫。第二句为全诗中心，表现了盼望快点到目的地的急切心情。但淮河风浪却很大，只好在河湾处暂作停泊，颇有吴越尚远，日暮途穷之感。“复”“足”，虽是平常之语，却是诗中之眼。

孟浩然（689-740），男，汉族，唐代诗人。本名不详（一说名浩），字浩然，襄州襄阳（今湖北襄阳）人，世称“孟襄阳”。浩然，少好节义，喜济人患难，工于诗。年四十游京师，唐玄宗诏咏其诗，至“不才明主弃”之语，玄宗谓：“卿自不求仕，朕未尝弃卿，奈何诬我？”因放还未仕，后隐居鹿门山，著诗二百余首。孟浩然与另一位山水田园诗人王维合称为“王孟”。
