译文
傍晚的夕阳斜照着华丽的宫殿，岁月使宫廷更加美丽。
年终岁寒，冬雪消融，暖洋洋的宫闱里似乎吹进了和煦的春风。
巨大红烛点燃了，远远看上去，像一簇簇花团。
君臣欢宴饮酒，喜度良宵，迎新年，辞旧岁，通宵歌舞。
注释
芳殿：华丽的宫殿。下文绮宫亦同。
丽：使动用法，使······美丽。
馥（fù）：香气。
盘花：此指供品。
守岁创作背景
贞观之治年间，国家繁荣强大。在除夕守岁间出现了皇宫里外迎新年，辞旧岁的繁华景象，唐太宗为此作下此诗。
守岁鉴赏
这首诗选用诸如“辞”、“去”、“带”、“入”、“舒”、“卷”等一系列动态词语，娓娓道来，贴切自然，清新可读。它属初唐难得的好诗之一。
第一，二句“暮景斜芳殿，年华丽绮宫。”以夕阳斜照、“年华”把芳殿、绮宫装扮得更加金碧辉煌来点明皇上于宫苑逢除夕，暗示题旨，给人以富丽堂皇之感。
第三，四句“寒辞去冬雪，暖带入春风。”紧承首联指出除夕是冬春交替之际——冰雪消融，寒冷的隆冬过去了；暖气回升，和煦的春天来到了。在这里，诗人从时令的转换角度给人以温馨的快意，酿造了一种暖洋洋、乐融融的节日气氛。
第五，六句“阶馥舒梅素，盘花卷烛红。”出句叙写梅花绽开，阵阵飘香。进一步渲染了春意。对句紧扣首联对句突出宫中守岁的景象：宫廷内外．张灯结彩，光辉灿烂；摆上供品，敬神祭祖，守岁辞旧。显得热烈而庄重。
最后两句“共欢新故岁，迎送一宵中。”紧扣“守岁”，由宫廷而至天下，推而广之．概述举国欢庆、共度良宵，辞旧迎新的普遍现象，从而浓化了宫苑守岁的热烈气氛。

唐太宗李世民（599年－649年），唐朝第二位皇帝，在位23年，年号贞观。名字取意“济世安民”，陇西成纪人（今甘肃天水市秦安县）。唐太宗李世民不仅是著名的政治家、军事家，还是一位书法家和诗人。唐太宗开创了著名的贞观之治，被各族人民尊称为天可汗，为后来唐朝全盛时期的开元盛世奠定了重要基础，为后世明君之典范。庙号太宗，谥号文武大圣大广孝皇帝，葬于昭陵。
