眼前正是卢橘花开、枫叶衰败的深秋季节，出得门来遥望远方，京师不知道在远处的哪个地方。
沅水湘江日夜不停地流向东方，为什么就不能为我这个愁情满怀的人驻留片刻听一听我内心的苦衷呢？
注释
沅湘：沅水和湘水的并称。战国楚诗人屈原遭放逐后，曾长期流浪沅湘间。
住：停，止，歇下。
湘南即事创作背景
当时他身在湘南，但他内心却时刻想念着京师（希望能到那里做一番事业），最后他通过埋怨东流水不能够理解他的心意，把自己很想报效国家但又报国无门的悲怨心情委婉曲折地表达了出来。

戴叔伦(732—789)，唐代诗人，字幼公（一作次公），润州金坛(今属江苏)人。年轻时师事萧颖士。曾任新城令、东阳令、抚州刺史、容管经略使。晚年上表自请为道士。其诗多表现隐逸生活和闲适情调，但《女耕田行》、《屯田词》等篇也反映了人民生活的艰苦。论诗主张“诗家之景，如蓝田日暖，良玉生烟，可望而不可置于眉睫之前”。其诗体裁皆有所涉猎。
