译文
在一次华堂宴会上，帘幕开处，随着袅袅香雾，走出一位美若天仙的女子。但见她腰肢细软，身着流素，翩翩起舞，那飘逸柔美的舞姿让善舞的飞燕也为之嫉妒。大意是：我因相思而借酒浇愁，一边随意吟咏《高唐赋》。楚王得以如愿以偿，而自己心目中的佳人却像巫山之云一样飘然而来又飘然而去，始终无法得到，只能望而兴叹。失望之中我又一次 来到昔日的华堂庭院前，独自倚栏，望着满园的花儿呆呆出神。愁云惨雾遍布庭中，积满栏杆，竟使人不堪其压迫，痛苦不已。
注释
一搦：一把。搦，捉，握持。
楚腰：代指美人之细腰。
翩跹：飘逸的样子。绰约：婉约美好之貌。
《高唐赋》：宋玉所作，其序中言宋玉给楚襄王讲楚怀王梦与巫山神女交欢之事。
玉楼春·华堂帘幕飘香雾鉴赏
“玉楼春”是词调名，据《词谱》载：“因顾穂词中有‘月照玉楼春漏促’，又有‘柳映玉楼春日晚’；五代欧阳炯词中有‘日照玉楼花似锦，楼上醉和春色寝’；又有‘春早玉楼烟雨夜’句，遂取为调名。”又名《木兰花》、《玉楼春令》、《西湖曲》、《归朝欢令》等。双调五十六字。
“华堂帘幕飘香雾，一搦楚腰轻束素。翩跹舞态燕还惊，绰约妆容花尽妒。”《韩非子》载：“楚灵王好细腰，而国中多饿人。”上片重点刻画伊人的美妙绝伦，采用赋的铺陈手法，把她形容得简直是“沉鱼落雁，闭月羞花”了。这里的“燕”，既指燕子，又暗指汉代的赵飞燕。汉宫美人赵飞燕纤腰一把，舞姿绝妙，传说她身轻如燕，能立于掌中。
“绰约妆容花尽妒”化用《长恨歌》中对杨玉环的描写：“楼阁玲珑五云起，其中绰约多仙子。中有一人字太真，雪肤花貌参差是。”在词人的眼里，这位佳人仿佛就是赵飞燕，又依稀好像杨玉环，兼具二人之美，于是情不自禁而生爱慕之意。

周端臣，宋词人。字彦良，号葵窗。建业(今南京)人。光宗绍熙三年（一一九二）寓临安。宋周密《武林旧事》云其曾经“御前应制”。后出仕，未十年而卒（释斯植《采芝集·挽周彦良》“白首功成未年”）。其词作今存九首，内容多为伤春、怨别，其中有四首“西湖”词。亦能诗，《诗家鼎脔》及《宋诗纪事》收其诗九首。有《葵窗词稿》，已佚。《江湖后集》卷三辑有其诗一卷。 周端臣诗，以影印文渊阁《四车全书·江湖后集》为底本，与新辑集外诗合编为一卷。
