清平乐·怀人鉴赏
当时词人客居他乡。那正是春光明媚的销魂时分，绿杨烟外莺啼婉转；百花丛中蝶舞蜂飞，池边的客馆前洋溢着浓浓的春意。“池馆春多处”中的这个“多”字，看似平常，实则用的非常贴切，恰到好处，较之“浓”、“满”、“密”、“繁”等字眼，实在准确得多，而且有着一种内涵丰富、独特的新意。
接下来，词人用“满架花云留不住，散作一川香雨”二句，描写暮春落花成阵的景象也显得十分新颖、工巧。词人把满架茂密的繁花比作一片美丽的彩云，把落到水面的片片花瓣比作“一川香雨”，这就不仅使这被历代多少文人写尽写滥了的关于落花的描写获得了形象上、语言上的新意，而且在“花云”与“香雨”这两个比喻物间找到了内在的联系：有“云”才会落“雨”，有“花”才会有“香”，因此这前后两句虽然造语工巧，但读来顺畅自然，不露斧凿之痕，不给人刻意求新之感。
在上阕写了词人客居所见的情景之后，下阕便顺势抒写自己客中的情怀。“相思夜夜情悰”，“悰”，特指欢悰，即欢情，谢眺《游东田》诗云：“戚戚苦无悰，携手共行乐”，这里词人是抒写自己对所怀之人“夜夜相思”，只有在梦中才能重温昔日相聚相伴时的欢情。梦中的欢情是虚幻、短暂的，梦醒之后带来的是更加失落的悲哀，因而便泪湿青衫，襟满“啼红”了。“啼红”乃“啼血”之别称。古谓杜鹃鸟啼至出血乃止。词人把自己比作啼声悲老的杜鹃，这斑斑泪痕不正像是杜鹃啼鸣的血痕吗？而且杜鹃又是相思鸟；“杜鹃声声，只唤不如归去。”它又是思归的象征，词人把自己暗比作杜鹃，也正蕴含了这两层意思在内。
最后二句乃是词人展开想象的羽翼，设想所怀之人在家乡、在故国对自己的思念。古典诗词中常有写己怀人却言对方怀己的篇什，如杜甫《月夜》本系怀念妻子，却言妻子怀念自己：“今夜鄜州月，闺中只独看。香雾云鬟湿，清辉玉臂寒……”这样就把怀念之情写得更深更切。这里也是用的这一手法：“料想故园桃李，也应怨月愁风”，不同的是词人不直写所怀之人怀己，而是运用借喻，以桃李隐譬所怀之人，人愁人怨以至连院中的桃李也都愁怨起来了，这便把人衬托得更加愁苦、幽怨。为何愁为何怨？不是愁风也不是怨月，而是愁己离家，怨己不归，己怀人却言人怀己，这就把词人自己思家怀人之情写得更深、更切、更难于忍受了。
