译文
置身于高天厚地之间时，我会渐渐地觉得自己平生似乎事事都不顺。不过好在我还有个小船般的书斋，在其中可以信马由缰，任我发挥。
姑且在这浮幻的人生中，暂时获得真正的自我。天地如此之大，我独自坐在经霜后的树林中，看那些红叶纷然坠落。
注释
点绛唇：词牌名，此调因江淹《咏美人春游》诗中有“白雪凝琼貌，明珠点绛唇”句而取名。四十一字。上阕四句，从第二句起用三仄韵；下阕五句，亦从第二句起用四仄韵。
侧身：置身。左：不当，不顺；错误。平生：手稿本、《乙稿》、陈本作“生平”。
小斋（zhāi）：指书房。舸（gě）：船。
自许：自信。回旋：转动，施展。
聊复：姑且。浮生：老庄以人生在世，虚浮无定。后世相沿称人生为浮生。
须臾：片刻，短暂。
乾坤：指天地。杜甫《野望》诗：“纳纳乾坤大，行行郡国遥。”大：音duò。

点绛唇·厚地高天创作背景
这首词出自于《人间词》乙稿，乙稿就总体看，写于1906年5月至1907年10月间。然亦杂有1906年前的作品。陈《谱》曰：“《点绛唇·厚地高天》：‘霜林独坐，红叶纷纷堕’，‘小斋如舸，自许回旋可。’亦疑在苏州时作。”这就是说，此词作于1904年秋或1905年。

点绛唇·厚地高天鉴赏
上片首句谓字宙广大悠久、无穷无尽。作看如此下笔，表明“我”要以审视千古的哲人眼光来述说人生。次句谓侧身人世，苦痛便与生俱生，等于走错了路。中国古人习惯，以“右”为正、为尊，以“左”为错、为卑。用《红楼梦评论》中的话说，“世界人生之所以存在”乃是“一时之误谬”。这就为“人”侧身人世定下了悲观基调。“小斋如舸，自许回旋可。”人，侧身人世便是苦痛，要怎么才能活下去。“我”说：“我”所占有的空间，仅如容身的小船，因而只好允许自己忍苦求生，逆来顺受。由小“我”而推论大我：芸芸众生，挤挤嚷嚷，周折回旋，只是为了存活，那很可哀。
下片接着写道“聊复浮生，得此须臾我。”人类重复地繁衍后代，“我”得到了短促的生命。言外之意，“我”在苦痛折磨中，也日渐走向死亡。由此观察人世，人生如逝水，流向东海不复，岂不可哀。怎么打发这可哀的人生呢，作者以形象答复读者：“乾坤大，霜林独坐，红叶纷纷堕。”“乾坤大”一句与上片起句“厚地高天”相照应，又表明作者以宇宙之广大、悠久来与“我”并提，显得“我”之卑微与速朽。“乾坤大”为叶韵句，但应与下两句连读，不应句断。“乾坤大”充满叹息意味，叹“我”乃“须臾”之物，又领起下两句。
这首词，上片下片的前两句，皆以诗化的思辨语言陈述，后两句或三句，则描绘形象，有直观性。这样写，好处在于仅用四十一个字，便可按照叔本华的哲学观点，说明如此人生；缺点在于形象化不足，直观性不强。
