译文
月亮被层云笼罩，阵阵晚风吹动悬挂在画檐下的铁马铜铃，叮当作响，这使得人更加感到悲凉凄切。起身挑挑灯芯，想把自己所有的思念、所有的悲苦、所有的怨恨都写下来说给心上人听，可是又长叹一声，想把灯吹灭，不再写了。
注释
双调：宫调名。寿阳曲：曲牌名，又名“落梅风”。
风弄铁：晚风吹动着挂在檐间的响铃。铁：即檐马，悬挂在檐前的铁片，风一吹互相撞击发声。
两般儿：指“云笼月”和“风弄铁。”凄切：十分伤感。
剔银灯：挑灯芯。银灯，即锡灯。因其色白而通称银灯。
吁气：叹气。

寿阳曲·云笼月鉴赏
元散曲表现思妇的凄苦，往往设身处地，曲尽其致。这首小令，就有着这种熨帖细微的特点，其最出色的地方就是意境绝妙。
起首两句，写云层遮住月亮，夜风将檐前铁马吹得叮当作响。前者为色，造成昏暗惨淡的效果；后者为声，增添了凄清孤寂的况味，所以接下去说“两般儿助人凄切”。用一个“助”字，说明曲中的思妇凄切已久。这“两般儿”已足以设画出凄凉的环境，从而烘托出人物的境遇及心情。
思妇对这“两般儿”如此敏感，是因为她独守长夜。这种凄切的况味难以忍受，亟须排遣，于是就有了四、五两句的情节。灯盖里的灯草快燃尽了，思妇将它剔亮——这也说明她在黑夜中确实已挨守了好多时候。剔亮银灯的目的，是为了将心中的思情同眼前的悲苦写在信上，好寄给远方的丈夫。却不料一声长叹，无意间竟把灯吹灭了。这两句针线细密：“剔银灯”回应“云笼月”，云蔽月暗，光线昏淡，加上银灯又不争气，灯焰将尽，故需要“剔”；而“长吁气”则暗接“风弄铁”，窗外的风儿足以掀弄铁马，毕竟还未能影响室内的银灯，如今居然“一声吹灭”，足见长吁的强烈。这个小小的片段，既出人意外，又使人觉得极为真实；女主人公的心事和愁情虽没有写成，却一清二楚地展现在读者的面前。这个结尾堪称出色。灯到底吹灭与否，作者未明言说破，或是故意不说破，这就使读者自然去想象曲子中之女主人公欲吹不忍，不吹又于心难平的矛盾心理和复杂表情，揣摩诗句所包含的爱恨交织的情韵。可谓”含不尽之意见于言外“（欧阳修《六一诗话》引梅尧臣语）的诗理。
《彩笔情辞》载卢挚的《寿阳曲·夜忆》四首，其中之一与此曲仅有少量不同，全文是：“窗间月，檐外铁，这凄凉对谁分说。剔银灯欲将心事写，长吁气把灯吹灭。”两作孰先孰后不易确定，不过末句是“一声吹灭”比“把灯吹灭”更有韵味。又《乐府群玉》有钟嗣成《清江引·情三首》，其一曰：“夜长怎生得睡着，万感着怀抱。伴人瘦影儿，唯有孤灯照。长吁气一声吹灭了。”钟嗣成是元晚期作家，其末句构思无疑是受了此曲的影响。

马致远（1250年-1321年），字千里，号东篱（一说字致远，晚号“东篱”），汉族，大都（今北京）人，另一说（马致远是河北省东光县马祠堂村人，号东篱，以示效陶渊明之志）。他的年辈晚于关汉卿、白朴等人，生年当在至元（始于1264）之前，卒年当在至治改元到泰定元年（1321—1324）之间，与关汉卿、郑光祖、白朴并称“元曲四大家”，是我国元代时著名大戏剧家、散曲家。
