宋·俞文豹《清夜录》：“范文正公镇钱塘，兵官皆被荐，独巡检苏麟不见录，乃献诗云：‘近水楼台先得月，向阳花木易逢春。’”
范仲淹是宋朝时的一位政治家、文学家，他学问很好，能诗能文。他写的《岳阳楼记》十分著名，那“先天下之忧而忧，后天下之乐而乐”的名句至今仍为人们所传诵。
范仲淹曾多次在朝廷担任要职，也曾镇守过地方。有一段时间，他镇守杭州。任职期间对手下的人都有所推荐，不少人得到了提拔或晋升，大家对他都很满意。
这时候，有一个叫苏麟的官员，因担任巡检，常常在外，却一直没有得到提拔。当他见到自己周围的同事，无论职位比自己高的、低的都一个个得到了升迁，而自己却没人理睬，心里很不是滋味。他担心自己一定是被这位范大人遗忘了。怎么办呢？直接去找范大人吧，是去争官位，又不便说。不说吧，心里又很不平衡。为此，他心情非常沉重。一天，他终于想出了一个委婉的办法来，这就是写首诗去向范大人请教，实际上去提醒他：千万别忘了自己！想到这里，苏麟高兴起来，他赶忙拿出纸认真地写了首诗，并将诗句呈给了范仲淹，很虚心地请他赐教。
范仲淹读着苏麟的诗，很快就会意地笑了。他吟诵着诗中的“近水楼台先得月，向阳花木易为春”的诗句，完全懂得了苏麟的言外之意。是呀！怎么能把他忘了呢？很快，苏麟得到了提拔。
苏麟的这首诗，因为只写了两句，所以称为“断句”。“易为春”，后来演变为“易逢春”、“早逢春”。

苏麟(969～1052前后)，宋杭州属县巡检。见[宋]俞文豹《清夜录》[宋]阮阅《诗话总龟前集》近水楼台： 此故事出自宋俞文豹编撰的《清夜录》。北宋著名政治家和文学家范仲淹，对部下很宽厚，常举荐随员做官。据说，他在浙江做官时，部下都经他举荐当了官。只有一位叫苏麟的人，因外出办事不在跟前，未被范仲淹举荐。於是，苏麟作诗云：「近水楼台先得月，向阳花木易为春。」看似咏楼台亭榭、花草树木，实则暗示：好处都被别人占了，而自己却得不到恩泽。此诗以后成为人尽皆知的成语，用以讥讽藉职务之便，为自己或亲信捞取好处的人。
