昔有田夫耕地，值见伤蛇在焉。顷之，有一蛇衔草着伤口上，经日创蛇走。田夫取其余叶治伤，皆验。本不知草名，乡人因以蛇衔名之。古人云：蛇衔草能续已断之指如故，非妄言也。

译文
过去有一位老农耕地，恰好看见一条受了伤的蛇躺在那里。过了一会儿，另有一条蛇，衔来一棵草放在伤蛇的伤口上。第二天，受伤的蛇跑了。老农拾取那棵草其余的叶子给人治伤全都灵验。本来不知道这种草的名字，乡里人就用“蛇衔草”当草名了。古代人说：“蛇衔草能把已经断了的手指接得和原先一样。”并不是乱说的。
