明广东南海人，字笃周。幼从湛若水学，与闻心性之旨。嘉靖四十一年进士，授礼部主事。穆宗即位，次日传封七夫人御札将出。棐谏诤，事乃罢。后终官光禄寺正卿。有《粤大记》、《岭海名胜记》、《四川通志》等。
