陈堂，字明佐。南海人。明穆宗隆庆二年（一五六八）进士。授严州司理，征拜南京监察御史。屡奉敕巡视京营及上下江监兑漕粮。明神宗万历五年（一五七七），以星变，上疏论河套贡市漕河段匹诸宜兴革状，及请斥权珰、易枢部、宥谏臣。因忤大臣张居正，被贬归。后复起用，历官广西佥事、光禄寺少卿、南京尚宝司卿。致仕家居，肆力著述，靡所营树。有《朱明洞稿》及《湘南》、《皇华》、《南归》诸集。清温汝能《粤东诗海》卷三四有传。
