（1816—1890）湖南衡阳人，字雪琴，号退省斋主人。诸生。道光末参与镇压李沅发起事。后至耒阳为人经理典当，以典当资募勇虚张声势阻退逼近县境之太平军。复投曾国藩，分统湘军水师。半壁山之役，以知府记名。以后佐陆军下九江、安床，改提督、兵部右侍郎。同治二年，督水师破九洑洲，进而截断天京粮道。战后，定长江水师营制，每年巡阅长江，名颇著。中法战争时，率部驻虎门，上疏力排和议。官至兵部尚书。卒谥刚直。
