周朝时期，民间有一个祭祀百神的“蜡”节日，孔子带弟子子贡去看热闹。子贡担心百姓只顾玩乐而会有危险。孔子给子贡解释道：“百姓成年累月在田间劳作，让他们放松一下，有张有驰，这是周文王与武王定下的规矩，这样便于更好地生产。”
