赵匡胤帮助周世宗打了很多胜仗，立了许多功劳，被周世宗封为殿前都点检。周世宗病故，8岁的梁王宗训当皇帝，北汉刘钧和辽兵联合入侵，赵匡胤奉命率军出征，到了陈桥驿，亲信楚昭辅、苗训、赵匡义拥立他为皇帝，改国号宋。
