秦末汉初，陈平家境非常贫寒，挂着破席子当门，在张负的资助下从师学习，他先后投奔魏王咎、项羽及刘邦。刘邦认为他是个人才，就封他为曲逆侯及丞相，他先后6次用计使刘邦转危为安，为汉王朝的稳定和巩固作出巨大的贡献。
