明朝时期，宋濂小时候因为家贫无法买书，只有向有藏书的人家借抄，不管天寒地冻，他都要坚持抄书好按时还给别人，还经常到百里之外向人求教。读书十分勤奋，生活十分节俭，学业进步很快。后来官至学士主修《元史》始终如此勤俭。
