之乎者也的典故

宋朝的开国皇帝赵匡胤在当上皇帝以后，准备拓展外城。

他来到朱雀门前，抬头看见门额上写着“朱雀之门”四个字，觉得别扭，就问身旁的大臣赵普：“为什么不写‘朱雀门’三个字，偏写‘朱雀之门，四个字？多用一个‘之’字有什么用呢？”赵普告诉他说：“这是把‘之’字作为语助词用的。”赵匡胤听后哈哈大笑，说：“之乎者也这些虚字，能助得什么事情啊！”

后来，在民间便流传一句谚语：“之乎者也已焉哉，用得成章好秀才”
