春秋时期，秦国人杞子在郑国掌握了都城北门的钥匙，派人要秦穆公攻打郑国。秦穆公不听蹇叔的劝告，派大将孟明视等率军出征。郑国商人弦高发现，假装送礼迎接秦军，背后通风报信。晋国乘机出兵打败秦军。秦穆公承认是他的罪过。
