机不可失的典故

唐朝初年，东突厥人侵忧大唐北部边境，唐太宗命李靖前去征讨，李靖大胜，东突厥的首领不得不向唐求和。唐太宗表面答应他求和，李靖也认为要“兵贵神速，机不可失”，于是发起进攻，全歼东突厥的军队。
