林黛玉听薛宝钗的下人说薛家正张罗宝琴的事，心中特别敏感，和衣而睡。在梦中见到南京派人来接她回去结婚，宝玉也催她回去，惊梦醒来就吐鲜血，心里凉了半截。紫鹃在旁边劝她保重身体，留得青山在，依旧有柴烧。黛玉又昏昏躺下做梦。
