战国时期，纵横家苏秦擅长辩论，凭一张嘴到处游说。他去楚国要求见楚王，把守宫门的谒者索贿不成，故意陷害他，让他先住三天，卖给他的东西特别贵。楚王见苏秦后，谈得非常投机。苏秦说楚国的米像珍珠、柴火像桂木一样贵。
