危如累卵的典故

春秋时代，晋灵公贪图享乐，派大臣屠岸给他造一座九层的琼台，他怕有劝阻，下令说：“谁敢进谏一律杀头！” 大臣荀息知道后，便来求见晋灵公。晋灵公为了防止荀息劝阻， 命武士弯弓搭箭，只要荀息一开口劝谏，便立刻把他射死。荀息见到 晋灵公后，故作轻松地对晋灵公说：“我今天来拜见大王，并不敢向 你规劝什么，只是来给你表演一个特技。我能够把12颗棋子垒起来， 再把9个鸡蛋垒上去而不会倒坍。” 晋灵公听了，便叫荀息表演。荀息先把12颗棋子垒起来，再把鸡蛋一个个加上去。晋灵公见了，在一旁大叫“危险”，荀息慢条斯理的说：“这有什么危险，还有比这更危险的呢。” 晋灵公问他更危险的是什么，荀息说：“大王，弥造九层高台，弄 得国内已没男人耕地，国库空虚，一旦外敌人侵，国家危在旦夕，难道不更危险吗？”晋灵公听了，这才醒悟过来，立刻下令停止了九层高台的工程。
