东汉时期，外戚和宦官之间的斗争十分激烈，汉顺帝下诏，让各地有才能的人到都城洛阳参加考试，选拔出李固担任议郎，李固被宦官排挤出京城，就给大将军梁商写信，希望朝廷吸取历史经验教训，杜绝奢侈浪费，避免百姓怨声载道。
