东汉时期，曹操挟天子而令诸侯，大举进攻孙权与刘备。赤壁之战大败而归，经过休整又一次亲率大军南下伐吴。孙权召集群臣商议对策，谋士张昭认为必须联合刘备，请刘备出兵共同抗曹，刘备是东吴的女婿，抗曹是他义不容辞的责任。
