晋朝时期，“书淫”皇甫谧博学而清高，虽然家贫但不愿做官，朝廷多次派人来请，他就是不去，乡亲们对此不理解。他回答说人被权力牵制，就会抛弃礼义，丧失道义之本，圣人参悟伏羲神农的道德，“欲温温而和畅，不欲察察而明切也。”
