公元279年，晋武帝下令灭吴，让王浚乘船从长江顺江而下，并指示进攻建平时受镇南大将军杜预指挥，进攻建业时，受安东大将军王浑指挥。王浚顺风顺流而下，所向风靡，直达石头城，吴王孙皓投降。晋武帝没有责怪他反而封他为辅国大将军。
